Information kindly provided by Stuart Courier:
Charles Courier (Ironmonger of College St) was married to Emily Lawrence who was well respected in Burnham and whose death in 1911 was recorded in the Burnham Gazette.
They had six children, in age order:-
1) Francis Louis (Frank) who was in the Somerset Yeomanry/ Light Infantry during the First World War serving in North Africa. He was invalided out in 1919.
Through my father, Albert, I have items relating to his service. Frank also took part in the Steart Island Swim.
2) Kenneth, who lived in Croydon.
3 Vernice Ruth, known as Girlie who lived in Leeds.
4) Albert Hugh (my father)
5) Cyril
6) Doreen

After Emily’s death Charles emigrated to South Africa taking the two youngest children with him. Albert was about 9 years old and went, with his older siblings, to live locally with an Aunt.
Albert in his late teens about 1920 cycled to West Bromwich to meet up with his brother Frank who had settled there for work. Reaching Bristol he became ill and spent 6 weeks recuperating before continuing his journey.
I did take Albert to Burnham in 1993 for his 90th birthday……a happy day! Frank lived in Sutton Coldfield and Albert in Quinton, Birmingham where I was born.
We frequently met at each others house and would listen to tape recordings posted by Cyril from South Africa.
