Ann Cox (nee Stevenson) remembers the hockey team and writes; ‘What a blast from the past seeing all those names from the team. I played in the mixed hockey team on what we called the lighthouse field, and still have a few scars to show for it, it was rough ground! Yes we played home matches on the beach, sometimes only just beating the tide! The goal posts and nets were kept in Herrings garage, and my dad (Ed Stevenson) used to collect them and take to the beach to set up. Then dad would mark out the pitch. After the match we would take the hockey balls home to clean and paint white ready for the next match. How equipment has changed. One advantage the team had, being used to the heavy going on the sand we frequently won by tiring out the opposition!’
